Around the World in 80 Days

Around the World in 80 Days is a book by French author Jules Verne, first published in 1873. The eleventh book in the Extraordinary Voyages series, the story follows a wealthy Englishman named Phileas Fogg, who makes a wager with members of his exclusive club that he can travel around the world in 80 days. Accompanied by his French valet, Passepartout, Fogg sets off on his journey, which takes him across continents and oceans. Along the way, Fogg and Passepartout encounter a number of challenges and obstacles, including delays, sabotage, and even arrest. They also meet a cast of colorful characters, including a beautiful Indian lady who they save from being burned alive, and a detective who believes Fogg is a criminal due to a case of mistaken indentity. Originally serialised in Le Temps, some people believed the journey was actually happening and placed bets as to whether Fogg would achieve his goal.
